According to The Athletic, the 25-year-old was pressured by the French Football Federation, Ligue 1, politicians and other organisations to stay at PSG, and subsequently in his home nation, until the 2024 Olympic Games.
This will be the first time in 100 years that the French capital will be the host city of the global spectacle, and in an attempt to mark the momentous occasion, those in charge of bidding on behalf of Paris used the nation's elite sportsmen and women to make a compelling case as to why they would be the ideal destination for the Games.
Mbappe seems to transcend football and it was perhaps important for all those involved in making Paris 2024 a reality that the Bondy native stay in the country until then.
It is said that this is likely the reason why, when his previous PSG contract expired in 2022 and he seemed destined for a move to Real Madrid, the president of France, Emmanuel Macron, got involved and is believed to have had a conversation with the attacker about staying instead, which he ultimately did, signing an extension at the time.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner's contract at the Parc des Princes is coming to an end once again this year, and this time his departure looks to be a certainty.

Mbappe has previously expressed his desire to play in the Olympic Games, but because the competition's football tournament is not included within the FIFA calendar, he will have to negotiate with his new club to be allowed to represent his country at the showpiece.
