Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has expressed his satisfaction with the development and progress of winger Azola Matrose, who returned to the team at the beginning of the season following a loan spell at Chippa United.

Speaking to the media during the Nedbank Cup press conference at Rand Stadium on Thursday afternoon, the Spanish coach highlighted Matrose's hard work and recovery from a challenging injury.

"He is working hard in training. He came back to the team with a difficult injury to deal with but now he is is fine. He is doing very well at training right now and if I can be honest, he is what I can say, taking great steps in his game. With the training it can be seen that he is ready to play a part in the team," Riveiro said.

Riveiro also noted the beneficial role of the DStv Diski Challenge team in Matrose's recovery and confidence-building process.

"Playing in the DDC is good for any player. That has also helped him recover well from the injury and gain confidence. He is not the only one who plays in the DDC team as there were other young players who train with the first team but also play in the DDC team. It's good for the players and the team," the coach concluded.

The integration of young players like Matrose into the DDC team, alongside their involvement with the first team, is part of Pirates' broader strategy to nurture talent and ensure a seamless transition to higher levels of competition. This approach not only aids in the physical recovery from injuries but also in the mental and tactical development of players, preparing them for the demands of top flight football.

Matrose's journey back to Pirates and his subsequent progress underlines the importance of patience, hard work, and a supportive developmental framework within a football club. As Matrose continues to make strides in his game, his story serves as an inspiration to other young players within the Pirates' setup and beyond.

With Matrose's future at Bucs previously in question, now coach Riveiro's commendation of Matrose's improvement is testament to the winger's resilience and dedication.
